Planning Technician

  • Prepares and provides resources and information to local businesses, professionals, the general public, state and federal agencies, other staff members and city departments regarding zoning, subdivision, annexation, code compliance, and other department activities;
  • Sends notification of approved annexations to appropriate local, state and federal agencies;
  • Assists the public and city staff with requests for information, and problem-solving, identifying their needs and directing them to other sources for information when necessary;
  • Attends official Board or Commission meetings associated with the planning division, as needed;
  • Researches courthouse deeds and tax records;
  • Researches, compiles, and analyzes data for special projects and various reports, presentations, and ordinances;
  • Provides assistance maintaining computer records and reports concerning inspections, code compliance, licenses, permits, certificates, etc.; Provides quality control for the Department's permit database;
  • Provides quality control for closing subdivisions and zoning files;
  • Reviews site development and subdivision applications for compliance with the City's addressing regulations;
  • Reviews applications for building permits and certificate of occupancies for compliance with the City's zoning regulations;
  • Develops and maintains demographic data, making population projections and estimates; Tracks housing, population, and demographic information, updates City's reports related to such topic;
  • Manages special projects as assigned;
  • Prepares graphs, spreadsheets, charts, tables and other graphic material as assigned;
  • Prepares and maintains updates to application checklists and forms and other publication materials;
  • Photographs land sites and community projects for publicity and public relations purposes;
  • Organizes and/or directs the filing and retrieval system of maps, plats, documents and records;
  • Assists with posting information on other departments websites, as needed;
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned

Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

Associates Degree, plus two (2) years of experience in a related field or a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, or related field; or any combination of experience, education and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Valid Texas Driver's License, with acceptable driving record.
