What: Denton's Hickory Street, recently recognized by APA Texas as a "Great Street," exemplifies the positive impact of cities reimagining outdated industrial downtown areas with creative infrastructure and public investment. Join the City of Denton for a presentation and walking tour demonstrating how investments in the public realm can lead revitalization of public spaces. Happy hour immediately following the tour, sponsored by 97 Land Company in partnership with Antero Group.

2024 Elected and Appointed Officials Workshop

When: Friday, July 26, 10AM - 3PM

Where: North Richland Hills Centre Grand Hall

What: Annual training opportunity for City Council members, Planning and Zoning Commissioners, Zoning Board of Adjustment members, and other elected and appointed officials. Event is designed primarily as an introduction to planning and zoning for new officials, but can also serve as a refresher course for more seasoned officials.

Grapevine Main Street Tour + Happy Hour

When: Friday, June 28, 4-6 PM

Where: Grapevine City Hall (200 South Main Street)

What: The tour will highlight the history of Grapevine and the city's current culture, including festivals and small businesses. Speakers will discuss the historical planning of the area including today's unique Transit District Overlay.

Mule Alley Tour + Awards Happy Hour

When: Friday, April 26 | 4-6 p.m.

Where: meet in the lobby of the Drover Hotel (200 Mule Alley, Fort Worth, TX)

What: Join us for a tour of the improvements to Mule Alley and historic Horse & Mule Barns in the Fort Worth Stockyards. This was named one of APA Texas' 2023 Great Public Spaces. Learn about the adoption of the Stockyards Form-Based Code & Design Guidelines and the public-private partnership that let to the rehabilitation of the historic alley, along with other projects such as the adjacent Hotel Drover.

Following the 1-hour tour we'll head over to Second Rodeo for our APATX Midwest Section Awards Happy Hour. Free drink/food ticket courtesy of Midwest Section will be provided.

Commercial Drone Delivery in North Texas Communities

What: It’s been a fantasy for the past decade, but the future has arrived in North Texas… by drone. Four drone companies—DroneUp, Flytrex, Wing, and Zipline—are expanding commercial package drone delivery operations in our region. Hear from industry experts and municipal planners about what this means to North Texas communities. From land use and zoning for ground operations to flight operations that fall under FAA regulations, this session will bring everyone up to speed on where commercial drone delivery currently stands in North Texas and what its growth looks like over the next decade. This is a hybrid in-person/virtual session. Please be sure to select which option you will attend when registering.

History

4TH ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER 

This year the Midwest Section combined the section’s annual awards ceremony and the 4th Annual Student Scholarship Fundraiser. The sponsorship funds raised at the fundraising event were directly applied to the student scholarship fund. The APA Texas Chapter is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.  The funds raised at 4th Annual Scholarship Fundraiser will be awarded at the 2020 Annual Awards Ceremony. Every year the Midwest section offers sponsorship opportunities for companies to contribute to the Midwest Student Scholarship Fund.
