West Section Lunch and Learn
The West Section held a lunch and learn event on September 18, 2025 to invite its membership to start with a board meeting followed by lunch and a presentation from the City of El Paso regarding the undergoing Climate Action Plan for the region. CM credits were available for those who participated.
Event Details:
The City of El Paso’s Office of Climate and Sustainability will present on the planning process and current progress of the region’s first Climate Action Plan (CAP). The CAP is community driven and supported by a steering committee made up of 12 regional municipalities and Tribal entities known as the Chihuahuan Desert Climate Collaborative (CDCC). Guest speakers will describe the different community engagement methods used throughout the feedback period.
Learning Objectives:
- To understand the criteria required from the EPA for grants used to fund the planning process of the CAP.
- To learn the difference between mitigation and adaptation actions and what the different measures are
- Prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity at community meetings
- How to navigate community engagement beyond community meetings (utilizing a fellowship program, engaging rural communities).
- How we are planning to navigate including community-based organizations and city departments in the implementation of the climate actions.
