POSITION OVERVIEW 
Under general supervision of the Planning Manager, the Planner performs professional and technical city planning work including review of subdivision plats, site plans, specific use permits, variances and other development applications.  Responsibilities also include monitoring compliance with the City’s Code of Ordinances, State Law and industry standards as it pertains to development and related zoning applications. 

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Reviews and coordinates development proposals in conformance with the Hutto SOAR 2040 Plan, Unified Development Code, and other applicable standards to ensure compliance with all codes 
  • Provides detailed research and analysis regarding development codes to developers, residents, and the general public  
  • Responsible for resolving outstanding issues with the development community, relative to submittals   
  • Providing regular updates to stakeholders about proposals and progress of projects   
  • Provides staff support to elected and appointed boards and commissions  
  • Follows all guidelines set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act 
  • Performs other duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES 

  • Knowledge of local government organizational structure and functioning; Codes, policies, regulations and procedures 
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) 


EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE 
Bachelor's degree with major course work in city planning, engineering, urban geography or related field. 

  • A minimum of one (1) year of professional planning experience in land use, community or transportation planning; economic development; preservation planning and/or urban design.  


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 
•    Work is performed in an office environment. 
•    May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing and data entry. 
•    May be subject to extended periods of intense concentration in the review of legal documents, contracts, ordinances, resolutions and related material. 
•    May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting of files/records weighing up to 30 pounds.
