The City of Webster’s Community Development Department has an immediate opportunity for an experienced City Planner who is service-oriented, strategic, and a problem solver.

The City Planner position is an integral member of the community development team that interacts with co-workers across departments and throughout in the community.  This position provides professional planning and technical services related to planning, zoning, subdivision regulations, and general development.  Key functions include coordinating functions of the Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustments and making urban and regional planning presentations to boards and commissions and to the City Council.  Other duties include responding to citizens’ inquiries, maintaining industry knowledge and certifications, contributing to city-wide projects, and routinely and professionally interfacing with city employees, other departments, realtors, developers, builders, engineers, and architects. This position provides backup assistance with civic center and park pavilion rentals occasionally in the absence of the coordinator.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires five (5) to seven (7) years of directly relevant urban/regional planning experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning is required.  Consideration my given for degrees in other relevant disciplines such as geography, architecture, or closely related fields from an accredited college or university.
  • Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is preferred.
  • A valid Texas Driver’s License is required.

 

Special Requirements:

This is an Essential Services position. The employee will be required to provide services in the course and scope of employment for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Webster’s citizens.

 

Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret maps, plats, site plans, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from citizens, regulatory agencies, or members of the development community.  Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, boards, commissions, Mayor, and City Council.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in written or verbal form and deal with abstract and concrete variables. Applies general principles and practices in the field of urban and regional planning.

 

Salary and Benefits Include:

The starting salary range is $82,898 to $106,113, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
