The Senior Planner performs technical review of new development plans, prepares agendas and associated reports, delivers oral presentations to elected and appointed officials, provides outstanding service to customers, and performs research and analysis, among other special duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Conducts technical plan review of new planning and zoning related applications for development.
• Processes planning related applications, prepares notices, writes reports, and other regular agenda management activities.
• Assists both internal and external customers with related planning and development questions, including providing guidance on processes.
• Administers all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Writes a variety of ordinances, regulations, and other literature.
• Provides general staff support to Boards & Commissions.
• Regular and punctual attendance to work.
• Ability to compile and analyze complex data.
• Administers long-range planning policies.
• Occasional field excursions and inspections related to projects.
• Attends evening and after-hour meetings; attendance at training and conferences.
• Other special duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, geography, or closely related field is required.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• American Institute of Certified Planner certification is preferred.
• A minimum of three to five (3-5) years of professional planning and development experience.
• Advanced ability to administer codes and ordinances of the Department.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and MVR check.
• Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver License is required.
