Urban Planner
Position Overview
We are seeking a resourceful and motivated Urban Planner to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining a calendar of projects, reviewing zoning and plat applications, drafting staff reports for commission/council meetings, and other development tasks. This role requires a combination of analytical skills, creativity, and an understanding of municipal planning process. The Urban Planner will collaborate with various stakeholders, including local government officials, neighborhood groups, engineers, and developers to process development applications.
Duties
- Conduct research and prepare reviews on land use, zoning regulations, and subdivision regulations complying with municipal ordinances.
- Draft public hearing notices, meeting agendas, ordinances for zoning cases, and amendments for various city regulations.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and visual aids to communicate planning application to stakeholders and the public.
- Collaborate with municipal staff, attorneys, engineers, architects, and surveyors to ensure that plans meet development codes.
- May be required to attend evening meetings for boards, commissions, and councils.
- Other duties not listed in this position may be assigned.
Skills
- Ability to read and understand engineering plans, concept plans, and plats.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) for presenting ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, and comprehensive plans.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet critical timelines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
- Competency required with Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft 365, and Adobe Illustrator.
- Preference will be given to applicants with basic GIS and/or basic AutoCAD.
Minimum Requirements
- A degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or similar field.
- Preference will be given to candidates with 1 year of directly related experience.
