Position Overview
The Center of Excellence for Housing and Community Development Policy Research at Texas Southern University seeks a motivated and experienced professional to serve as Program Manager. In this role, you will oversee the Center’s day-to-day operations, manage research projects, and foster collaboration among researchers, community partners, and stakeholders. This position is key to advancing the Center’s mission, ensuring timely and impactful research outputs, and expanding the Center’s reach through effective communication and engagement strategies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance the Center’s efficiency.
- Oversee budget management, ensuring financial sustainability and adherence to university guidelines.
- Manage administrative functions, including human resources, procurement, and facilities operations.
2. Research Project Management
- Coordinate and supervise research initiatives focused on housing and community development.
- Facilitate collaboration among research teams, tracking project timelines and deliverables.
- Assist with grant writing and fundraising to support current and future research projects.
3. Social Media Outreach and Website Content
- Design and execute a comprehensive social media strategy to boost the Center’s visibility.
- Develop engaging content, manage online platforms, and interact with audiences to highlight research findings and events.
- Draft and distribute press releases covering key research outcomes, events, and initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets to promote the Center’s impact.
- Regularly update website content to showcase current research, events, and news.
4. Community Engagement
- Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, governmental agencies, and industry stakeholders.
- Organize events, workshops, and conferences to encourage knowledge sharing and partnership.
- Represent the Center at external meetings and conferences to enhance visibility and reach.
5. Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor staff and student researchers, creating a supportive and inclusive work environment.
- Encourage professional development and learning opportunities for Center personnel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Sociology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated success in project management, preferably within a research or academic setting.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in social media management and content development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex research to varied audiences.
- Familiarity with housing and community development issues.
- Master’s degree preferred but not required.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Office 365.
- Supervisory experience with student staff or volunteers.
- Quantitative and qualitative research skills (or willingness to learn), including survey design, data analysis, and focus group facilitation.
- Professional writing and publication experience (or willingness to learn).
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving, decision-making, and time-management abilities.
- Skilled in conflict management and resolution.
- Ability to adapt to new processes and align with organizational objectives.
- Capable of both independent and collaborative work under tight deadlines.
- Sound judgment and the ability to maintain high-quality standards.
