Richardson, Texas, is a vibrant inner-ring suburb of Dallas, home to just over 120,000 residents. Located just minutes north of downtown Dallas with easy access to US-75, I-635, and the President George Bush Turnpike, Richardson features amenities of a bustling metro area, yet still retains a friendly, small-town feel, making it an appealing place to live, work and play.

The Development Services Department provides comprehensive planning and development support to guide the City’s long-term growth and redevelopment. The department manages current and long-range planning, development review, and civil engineering coordination. It also provides technical support to the City Council, City Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Reporting to the Assistant City Manager, the new Director of Development Services will:
• Lead a high-performing team across planning and engineering functions
• Guide implementation of the City’s Comprehensive Plan (Envision Richardson)
• Oversee zoning, platting, and site review processes
• Support area redevelopment plans and neighborhood revitalization
• Collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders to streamline development services

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in municipal planning, land development, and redevelopment, particularly in built-out or redevelopment-focused communities. This individual is a strategic thinker and effective communicator who thrives in collaborative environments and is comfortable navigating complex political and regulatory landscapes.

Required qualifications include:
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, City Planning, Urban Design, or a closely related field
• Eight (8) years of progressive experience in municipal planning and/or land development, including four (4) years in a supervisory or management role
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with elected officials, boards, staff, and the development community

Preferred qualifications include:
• Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
• Experience leading redevelopment initiatives in built-out communities
• Master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a related discipline

The salary range for this position is $190,000-$210,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
