Responsible for reviewing landscaping and tree preservation plans and ensuring compliance with the regulations of the Denton Development Code and adopted criteria manuals
DUTIES
- Review and provide feedback on plans including but not limited to, site, civil engineering, plats, permit, landscaping, tree preservation, capital improvement plans, and landscape irrigation and tree removal permits, and technical documents for private developments.
- Complete inspections to ensure compliance with the land development codes relevant to tree preservation and landscaping regulations.
- Investigate complaints of alleged violations; facilitate actions to resolve concern, as appropriate.
- Meet with internal and external stakeholders to review and inspect final landscape and mitigation projects. Verify project meets established standards; provide notification of corrective action(s) required, if needed.
- Participate with internal and external stakeholders to review engineering and permitting plans, discuss landscape or tree mitigation issues, provide information and/or technical-level expertise on landscape and tree issues, and/or coordinate on a variety of information.
- Promote tree preservation and use of native plant species through development of educational programs and presentations.
- Create landscape and graphic design presentations and Citywide project reports for internal and external stakeholders, as needed.

Job Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Forestry, or a related field; and
- Three (3) years’ experience in municipal planning, landscape architecture or design experience, arborist, forestry, or related field,
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and/or regulations regarding urban planning and development.
- Knowledge of landscape architecture and/or forestry.
- Knowledge of Citywide policies and procedures.
- Skill at reading and interpreting plans, blueprints, schematics, highly technical, specialized materials, and/or other related development documents.
- Skill in active listening; giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points communicated, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Skill at an advanced level with Microsoft Office 365 and other software systems necessary to complete work.
- Skill in analyzing and researching, to interpret and understand policies, laws, and regulations, and to provide workable recommendations and solutions to problems that maintain compliance.
- Skill in judgment and creativity in decision-making; considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and select the most appropriate one.
- Skill in interpreting and applying applicable code requirements and permitting processes.
- Ability to gather and analyze data, draw conclusions, and present data and other information in a clear and logical manner.
- Ability to form and maintain effective relationships.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work, maintain attention to details and quality, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, in both oral and written forms, as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
- Must pass a physical examination.
